About the Role
We now have an opportunity for an Electrical Design Engineer to join our Engineering team to provide electrical engineering design support to the technical systems of the Diamond facility. The Engineering team plays a key role in the design, development and construction of the equipment required to enable X-ray production for Scientific research.
Responsibilities will include:
- Assisting and producing electrical designs for a variety of projects including Motor Controls, Vacuum control systems, Electrical rack and panel design, Low Voltage distribution systems & Relay and Interlock logic.
- Developing CAD schematics, hook-ups, and other electrical design documentation.
- Assisting in and carrying out procurement of equipment through commercial suppliers.
- Maintaining and updating engineering drawings and documentation on projects.
- Design in line with the British, European International and company standards.
- Liaising with system owners to gain experience in technologies such as programmable logic controllers, motion controls, distributed I/O, instrumentation, and pneumatic controls.
- Contributing to hazard analysis and risk assessment exercises.
About You
You will have a background in an Electrical Engineering discipline, with at least a Level 3 Qualification and recognised Apprenticeship, or HNC or above in a relevant discipline. You will be passionate about a career in electrical engineering with some experience of design, manufacture, assembly, testing and commissioning of Electrical systems. You will also demonstrate basic understanding of control systems and electrical designs methodology, with working knowledge of a CAD system.
You will also have experience in:
- Producing working designs e.g. electrical diagrams, parts lists, and general assembly drawings.
- Electrical engineering fundamentals.
- Essential health and safety context.
You will demonstrate design understanding in at least one of the following areas:
- Electrical Rack build & design.
- Motor control systems driving Stepper, Servo or DC motors.
- Vacuum control systems.
- Low Voltage distribution systems.
- Relay and interlock logic.

This role qualifies for a non-pensionable allowance of £2,250 per annum. As standard this role offers a hybrid working arrangement with a minimum of 3 days working onsite per week.
