About Us
Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays which are used for academic and industry research and development across a range of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth and environmental sciences.
About the Role
We now have an opportunity for an Electrical Design Engineer to provide electrical engineering design support to the technical systems of the Diamond facility. As an Electrical Design Engineer you will assist, and develop the skills required, in the production of electrical system designs for a variety of projects including:
- Precision positioning controls for optical systems
- Vacuum control systems
- Machinery controls
- Safety circuits
- LV systems
You will also develop knowledge and skills required to use electrical CAD software and AutoCAD to produce schematics, hook‑ups and other electrical design documentation, in support of the project requirements.
About You
To be considered, you will either hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronic engineering, or be somebody looking to take the next step in their career, perhaps after an apprenticeship or from a Technician position where you have worked with CAD. You will have a good understanding of Electrical Engineering fundamentals, with proven design experience either from employment or from an academic project. You will have the ability to produce designs and specifications to appropriate standards, and to oversee procurement, assembly, testing and commissioning of electrical control systems.
Benefits
Diamond offers an exceptional benefits package to support staff in achieving a positive work/life balance. This includes:
- 26 days annual leave plus Christmas closure
- Public holidays
- 2 annual volunteering days
- Flexible working hours
We also offer an excellent defined benefit pension scheme. A relocation allowance may also be available where applicable. Our campus-based location, with open green space, offers sports pitches, an outdoor gym, as well as a network of cycle, running and walking routes. Staff also have access to a range of onsite amenities including cafes, restaurants, a daycare nursery and free on-site parking.
Visa and Employment Eligibility
This position doesn't meet the requirement for UK visa sponsorship, and subsequently we cannot consider individuals requiring sponsorship or currently on a time limited visa, such as a Graduate visa. The position offers a permanent contract and so requires existing right to work in the UK with no time limit on your leave to remain.
