Our local government clients in Northwest London seek a Deputy Head of Building Control - Class 3 Specialist. Leading on complex matters about Building regulations submissions, Dangerous Structures, and the London Building Acts, you will play a crucial role in ensuring safety and compliance, inspiring a sense of purpose and professional pride.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for supporting the Building Control Manager in the direction, support, and development of the Building Control Team, with clear pathways for professional growth and leadership opportunities.
- Service and effective support in respect of leadership and assistance to team members where necessary.
Qualifications – Essential
- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject such as Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, Structural Engineering and be able to demonstrate learning at an equivalent level.
- Member of a relevant professional body such as RICS, CABE, CIOB or equivalent with relevant Building Control bias and evidence of achieving CPD requirements.
- Advanced – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), social media and CRM.
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
- Excellent knowledge of the construction industry, methods, techniques, and materials.
- An excellent knowledge of legislation, regulations, and professional codes of practice for the service area, including the operational standards and rules set by the Building Safety Regulator and legislation relating to construction and the Health and Safety at Work (etc.) The 1974 Act and associated Building Control functions are offered by a Local Authority.
- Good knowledge of financial constraints and how they impact service delivery.
- An understanding of managing diversity and equal opportunities in Building Control.
- Significant knowledge of fire safety legislation and Building Safety Regulator requirements.
- Substantial amount of post-qualification experience in building control activities, particularly in dealing with both full plans and building notice applications.
- Experience of working on complex building regulation applications, including fire safety, for commercial, residential, and educational buildings, with specific examples or levels of complexity to ensure understanding of the scope.
- Substantial experience in delivering a customer-focused service.
- Substantial experience in dealing with dangerous structures, section 20 buildings and section 30 applications.
- Ability to work independently, to meet agreed work plans and deadlines, and to meet required performance targets.
- Ability to work corporately with other service managers.
- Understands the contribution the role makes to the service and organisation, thinks outside their own area to understand the aims of other services.
- An ability to direct the development of effective performance management to support the service.
- Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records.
