The role involves seeking an experienced and commercially minded Chartered Engineer to lead and grow our Due Diligence, Building Safety Advisory, and Technical Design services. The focus will be on expanding the business across technical advisory, compliance, remediation, and design-led engineering services within the residential, commercial, education, hospitality, and mixed-use sectors.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical capability with commercial awareness and leadership skills to help drive the next stage of growth of the business. Key responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Lead and grow the Due Diligence, Building Safety Advisory, and Technical Design service offering.
  • Provide strategic engineering advice relating to building safety, compliance, technical risk, and design development.
  • Lead technical design reviews and support the development of compliant engineering and remediation solutions.
  • Oversee technical assessments, inspections, audits, reports, and advisory commissions.
  • Support multidisciplinary design teams across RIBA stages, from concept through to construction and completion.
  • Review and advise on design information, specifications, drawings, and construction details.
  • Support façade, fire, and building safety strategies and ensure integration within wider project design.
  • Assist clients in navigating Building Regulations, the Building Safety Act, and gateway requirements.
  • Develop relationships with developers, architects, contractors, housing providers, legal teams, and asset owners.
  • Identify business development opportunities and contribute to winning new work.
  • Manage and mentor engineers and technical staff.
  • Act as a senior technical authority within the business and maintain high professional standards.
  • Support fee proposals, project delivery planning, and commercial management.
  • Represent the business at client meetings, technical workshops, and industry events.

Key candidate criteria:

  • Mandatory: Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with a recognised professional institution.
  • Strong experience within engineering consultancy, building safety, technical design, façade/fire engineering, or compliance advisory.
  • Experience delivering technical design and advisory services across complex projects.
  • Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations and building safety frameworks.
  • Experience reviewing and coordinating technical design information and construction details.
  • Proven client management and business development capability.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and report-writing skills.
  • Leadership and team management experience.
  • Existing industry network and client relationships.
  • Desirable: Experience in remediation and retrofit projects.
  • Experience supporting Gateway applications and higher-risk buildings.
  • Experience in expert witness or dispute resolution matters.
