Job Title: Assistant Manager, Guinness Open Gate Brewery, London

12 month FTC

Key Skills & Experience required

  • Prior experience of running large high turnover hospitality premises

  • Licensing experience, preferably prior DPS experience

  • Crisis Management experience

  • Experience managing and liaising with on-site security teams

  • Facilities and maintenance management

  • Demonstrated experience of high level of standards management

  • Able to work collaboratively across multiple departments

  • Prior experience of managing site wide health and safety and compliance

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day operations of a large, multi-experience hospitality venue.

  • Ensure smooth delivery of services across bars, restaurants, events, and brewery experiences.

  • Maintain legal and community commitments (e.g. licensing, OMP).

  • Assist in managing relationships with key partners, including Sodexo.

  • Support financial performance targets (P&L accountability).

  • Aid in staff recruitment, training, and delivery of high service standards.

  • Help manage external stakeholder relations (e.g., police, licensing authorities).

  • Support cultural, community, and event-driven initiatives.

  • Contribute to delivering Net Promoter Score (NPS) targets.

Key aspects of the day-to-day activities

  • Operating across the full site (50,000 Sq/Ft) throughout a shift

  • Patrolling the site, and being present in customer facing and back of house areas

  • Primarily responsible for licensing and OMP commitments, engaging with staff and security in all areas of the business

  • Assisting with deliveries and courtyard logistics. Seeing in delivery vehicles safely in early mornings throughout the year

  • Crisis management; the manager on duty will be in charge of any crisis. They should be fully trained, and able to act fast in a crisis. Being able to reach the necessary location on site quickly is key, as well as communicating with guests, and staff. If evacuation is needed, then the manager on duty is solely responsible to executing this safely.

  • Incidents and accidents; The manager on duty is responsible to attending incidents and coordinating with security. They must be able to attend incidents quickly in order to affectively manage the situation

  • First aid: the manager on duty is primarily responsible for first aid, and must be able to attend any incident quickly, and be trained to administer first aid

  • Brand reputation is key. The manager on duty is responsible to areas of quality control, working with the team in cellar operations to ensure a perfect pint of Guinness every time. This will involve areas of manual handling

  • Fire; the MoD is primarily responsible for evacuating guests and staff in the event of a fire, coordinating all teams to safely deal with any scenario. They will likely be the last person out of the building, ensuring all areas are clear

  • Stairs; the site comprises of old Covent Garden buildings, with narrow staircases. They MoD is requite to navigate across all floors on the site to ensure the smooth running of the day to day business.

  • Early starts / late finishes are a significant aspect of this role, and occasionally may be required to work in poor lit areas

  • Assisting all areas of the business with training of all types from compliance to standards

  • Security briefings must take throughout the day, and involve the MoD checking in regularly

  • Assisting in departments in delivery of the shift, working in stock rooms to help on occasion, helping to organise stock and replenish the store front, as well as assisting with bar service and tour groups

  • Event set up will be part of the role, helping to move furniture into place in and out of store rooms

Other general tasks may include:

  • Lifting and carrying stock (e.g., boxes of bottles, retail merchandise, kegs, POS materials).

  • Setting up event spaces, which may include moving tables, stacking/unstacking chairs, lifting staging or AV equipment.

  • Restocking bars and retail (carrying crates, moving pallets, loading/unloading deliveries).

  • Moving equipment (e.g., beer taps, portable bars, sound systems, signage).

  • Assisting with brewery tours, which might involve handling heavy doors, guiding groups up/down stairs, and possibly assisting with sample setups.

  • Handling refuse – taking out bins, moving waste/recycling, especially after events or busy trading periods.

  • Emergency tasks – assisting in physical incidents (e.g. cleaning spills, moving furniture in emergencies, supporting during fire evacuations)
