About the role: The Data & Analytics Governance Director is a DA&I leader reporting to the CDAO and is responsible for defining & enforcing Diageo’s enterprise-wide data & analytics governance strategy. This role drives trust, quality, and compliance across the data ecosystem, partnering closely with Data Products, Platforms, Capability, and Initiatives to embed governance by design. The role leads the central Data Governance Office which designs enterprise-wide policies, leads the implementation & ensures compliance. The purpose of this role is to establish and enforce Diageo’s enterprise-wide data governance frameworks, policies, and operating model. The position ensures trusted, compliant, and high-quality data across all domains by embedding governance practices into the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic: Owns and safeguards the enterprise-wide data governance strategy, standards, and frameworks, ensuring trust, consistency, and compliance across all of Diageo. Partners closely with senior business, functional, and technology leaders to embed governance principles into enterprise decision-making, ensuring data is treated and managed as a strategic asset. Ensures influential leadership and accountability for end to end data governance frameworks, ensuring enterprise-wide alignment and adoption. Champions a culture of accountability and stewardship for data as a strategic asset, embedding governance principles into every decision, process, and platform. Ensures that Data policies and standards are aligned with broader AI governance, policies and standards as these emerge.
- Leadership: Establishes, empowers, and coaches data governance roles across the organization (Data Domain Owners (DDOs), Data Stewards (DS)), building a high-impact network of data leaders. Partners with Platform, Product, and Capability leaders to embed governance-by-design into every layer of Diageo’s data ecosystem. Leads enterprise adoption of metadata standards, data cataloguing, lineage, and stewardship practices, ensuring data is trusted, discoverable, and reusable. Designs and drives governance KPIs and dashboards that monitor adoption, compliance, and quality, creating transparency and accountability at scale.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- 10+ years in data governance, information management, or data strategy roles.
- Proven track record delivering enterprise-scale governance transformations with measurable impact.
- Expertise in enterprise data governance frameworks, MDM best practices, metadata management, data cataloguing, and regulatory compliance (GDPR, CCPA).
- Strong leadership: ability to influence senior stakeholders, drive cross-functional collaboration, and lead change management at scale.
- Experience in consumer goods or highly regulated industries advantageous.
- Familiarity with centralised governance models preferred.
