Job Summary

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic candidate who is committed to person‑centred care. The role is based in Kingfisher House, a newly established male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, and will support the Occupational Therapist and Occupational Therapy Assistant in delivering therapeutic activities and promoting recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Support the team in providing a quality recreational/leisure service to enhance a service user’s stay.
  • Organise, plan and facilitate individual and group activities.
  • Initiate and sustain a respectful, consistent and reliable approach with service users, enhancing their social networks.
  • Prompt service users to attend activities, maintaining specified levels of engagement.
  • Assist with administrative duties including statistics and publicity.
  • Maintain effective time management when preparing and running activities.
  • Document changes in occupational functioning and report findings.
  • Co‑ordinate care and ensure Trust record‑keeping guidelines are followed.
  • Contribute to environmental risk assessments and incident reporting.
  • Support the development of the recreational service and attend staff meetings.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Evidence of working in a care setting, ideally mental health.
  • Knowledge and experience of a wide range of recreational and leisure activities.
  • Ability to work flexibly, responding to competing demands and working Monday‑Friday, evenings and weekends.
  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience of working independently and with a team.
  • Health and fitness sufficient for light physical effort.

Essential Skills

  • Team working within an NHS setting.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Proficient in written and verbal English.
  • Aware of personal limitations and ability to seek support.

Desirable Skills

  • Food hygiene certificate.
  • Customer care training.
  • Experience with people with learning disabilities or challenging behaviours.
