Requirements: Extremely important- Please include a link/pdf of your portfolio in the resume section. This is a requirement for the job.
The role: You'll design packaging across our full confectionery portfolio: chocolate, sweets, wafers, protein bars and new categories in development. This is not a concept-only seat. We need someone who takes a product from white-space brief through to finalised print files: front-of-pack hierarchy, back-panel layout, regulatory marks, dielines, separations, spot colours and proofing sign-off with our printers in the UK, EU and beyond.
Why Diablo: As Europe's largest sugar-free / no-added-sugar confectionery company, you'll see your work in hundreds of thousands of stores across 126 countries. We move fast, ship often and trust designers to own their craft, while obsessing over details. The portfolio is wide and the white space is real; there's room to shape a category, not just decorate it.
What you'll do:
- Develop packaging concepts that stand out on the confectionery aisle and translate cleanly across SKUs, formats and regions.
- Build full artwork files to print-ready spec: bleeds, dielines, Pantone matching, ink limits, varnishes and finishes.
- Lay out back-of-pack content correctly: ingredients, nutritional panels, allergens, â„®-mark, recycling symbols, multilingual copy and market-specific compliance (EU FIC 1169/2011, UK, GCC, US).
- Liaise directly with compliance and printing teams to resolve technical queries and sign off proofs.
- Maintain brand consistency across new designs while pushing the visual language forward.
- Work with marketing, ops and R&D to make sure designs are commercially sharp and operationally feasible.
What we're looking for:
- 3+ years designing FMCG product packaging, ideally food or confectionery.
- Experience finishing both front and back of packaging, with files ready to be sent for printing.
- A portfolio that shows both creative range and technical finish: concepts that sell, executed in files that print without surprises.
- Fluency in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign; strong Photoshop.
- Real working knowledge of print production: CMYK vs Pantone, overprint, trapping, foil, emboss, spot UV, soft-touch finishes.
- An eye for detail that borders on obsessive: typography, kerning, alignment, regulatory icon placement, barcode integrity.
- Ability to manage multiple SKUs and deadlines without dropping quality.
- Experience using AI software for design, such as ChatGPT and Midjourney.
- Bonus: experience with EU and UK food labelling, 3D pack visualisation or mock-up rendering, die line construction from scratch.
