With us, care never stops.

At DHU Healthcare CIC, our Primary Care teams work at the heart of local communities, delivering high-quality, patient-centred services across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Based at Heron, you will play a vital role in ensuring patients receive timely access to care and a positive experience from the moment they contact or visit the practice.

Our teams of skilled clinicians and support professionals work together to provide responsive, professional NHS services. As a GP Receptionist/Administrator, you will be central to keeping our practice running efficiently and compassionately every single day.

As an Apprentice Receptionist/Administrator You Will:

  • Be the welcoming, professional first point of contact for patients and visitors.
  • Open the practice as required - preparing reception areas, starting systems and ensuring readiness for patients from 8am.
  • Securely close the building at the end of the day, ensuring all patients have left and systems are shut down appropriately.
  • Manage appointments, including new and follow-up bookings, home visit requests and comfort calls for patients who do not attend (DNA).
  • Receive and accurately record incoming calls, transferring enquiries appropriately to GPs, Nurses, the Practice Manager and colleagues.
  • Maintain and update patient records using clinical systems, including SystmOne.
  • Undertake data entry, summarise patient records and type outgoing correspondence in line with protocols.
  • Process incoming mail, extracting and filing relevant documentation efficiently and confidentially.
  • Maintain a tidy, safe and welcoming reception, waiting and back-office environment.
  • Provide a positive image of the organisation in all interactions.
  • Escalate incidents, concerns or notable feedback to the appropriate manager promptly.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to data protection regulations at all times.
  • Demonstrate our values by being compassionate, respectful, accomplished and encouraging in every interaction.

You will bring:

  • Strong administrative experience, excellent attention to detail, and confidence using IT systems including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or primary care environment is desirable.
  • A working knowledge of SystmOne would be advantageous.

You will also demonstrate:

  • The ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A self-motivated approach, working effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet changing service and rota needs.
  • A commitment to continuing professional development.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle may be required to travel to other DHU bases occasionally.

We will support your health, happiness and future with benefits that put you first. From access to the NHS Pension Scheme (and we will honour your existing NHS pension pot and holiday entitlement if you are transferring), to wellbeing support, flexible options and career growth, we are here to help you thrive at work and in life.

The best care comes from teams where everyone feels valued and supported. We welcome colleagues from all backgrounds and proudly support Veterans, Reservists and military families. Inclusion and belonging are central to who we are, and together, we make the difference.

Development is part of our culture. From essential training and apprenticeships to supportive leadership and career pathways, we will help you grow in ways that matter to you. We actively encourage continuing professional development and support you in building a meaningful career within primary care.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of adults, children and young people and expect all colleagues to share this commitment. This role is subject to satisfactory DBS and pre-employment checks. Flexibility is required to support service and rota needs, including covering annual leave and sickness where appropriate.
