Job Introduction: With us, every moment matters. At DHU Healthcare, our NHS 111 service is more than a number – it’s the voice of reassurance, the first point of contact, and often the start of someone’s urgent care journey. Every call is a chance to make a difference, and as Director of NHS 111 Services, you’ll lead the people and systems that make that possible. This is a rare opportunity to join DHU’s senior leadership team and shape one of the largest and most trusted NHS 111 services in the country. You’ll lead with purpose, compassion, and ambition – ensuring that every caller receives safe, timely, and high-quality care, while driving forward the innovation and collaboration that define our future.
About the role
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, you’ll provide strategic and operational leadership for our NHS 111 services across multiple regions. You’ll oversee large, complex 24/7 operations, guiding thousands of colleagues – from call handlers to clinicians – in delivering exceptional care and patient experience. You’ll also play a key role in system-wide transformation, building strong partnerships with Integrated Care Systems (ICSs), commissioners, regulators, and fellow providers. As part of our executive team, you’ll influence the urgent and integrated care agenda nationally, ensuring DHU remains a trusted, forward-thinking partner for the NHS.
About you
You’ll bring a proven track record of leading large-scale healthcare or urgent care operations within a call centre environment, with the strategic insight and operational acumen to balance day-to-day excellence and long-term system impact. You’ll be values-driven, collaborative, and deeply committed to quality, inclusion, and wellbeing. You’ll also have:
- Senior leadership experience in urgent, unscheduled, or integrated healthcare services and / or regulated call centre environments.
- Strong governance, assurance, and financial management skills.
- Proven success in service innovation, redesign, or digital transformation.
- The ability to inspire, empower, and develop large, diverse teams.
- A passion for partnership working and social value creation.
