Job Purpose: The Lead Product Owner is responsible for end-to-end ownership of functional product scope across IRM technology initiatives. The role defines, manages, and prioritises requirements, user stories, product backlogs, and the overall transformation vision to deliver high-quality, business-aligned technology solutions. Acting as the key interface between business stakeholders, operations, architecture, and technology delivery teams, the role ensures that underwriting, claims, policy, and regulatory requirements are effectively translated into actionable epics, user stories, and deliverable outcomes. The role brings deep insurance domain expertise and contributes to domain-level solution design and architecture alignment, ensuring solutions are scalable, compliant, and aligned with IRM operating models and enterprise standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and guide business analysts and requirements teams, ensuring effective prioritisation of the IRM T-A-T (Technology, Architecture and Transformation) backlog
- Own and manage the product backlog, ensuring prioritisation is aligned with business value, strategic objectives, and IRM roadmap
- Lead backlog refinement, grooming sessions, sprint planning, and other Agile ceremonies
- Gather, define, and validate business and operational requirements in close collaboration with IRM stakeholders
- Translate business needs into clear epics, user stories, and well-defined acceptance criteria
- Lead workshops and stakeholder sessions to define scope, clarify requirements, and shape solution direction
- Act as the primary interface between business, architecture, and technology delivery teams
- Contribute to domain architecture discussions, ensuring alignment between business processes, data flows, and target architecture
- Ensure solutions align with IRM domain models (claims, underwriting, policy) and enterprise architecture principles
- Collaborate closely with architects and engineers to validate solution feasibility and design integrity
- Maintain clear scope definition, requirements traceability, and change control across initiatives
- Validate delivered solutions against business requirements and acceptance criteria
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, risk, and insurance industry requirements across all solutions
- Identify risks, dependencies, and gaps, and proactively drive resolution
- Support UAT, release readiness, and business adoption activities
- Continuously improve product ownership practices, documentation standards, and delivery effectiveness
- Monitor industry, insurance, regulatory, and technology trends to inform roadmap and strategic recommendations
Qualifications & Key Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Technology, or related discipline (Master’s preferred)
- 12+ years of experience in product ownership, business analysis, or delivery roles
- Strong domain experience in insurance, risk management, or financial services (mandatory)
- Proven experience in backlog management, prioritisation, and product lifecycle ownership
- Strong capability in writing epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria
- Experience facilitating workshops and leading cross-functional stakeholder discussions
- Strong experience working in Agile / Scrum environments
- Exposure to solution architecture or technical design discussions is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of insurance processes (underwriting, claims, policy administration)
