PLEASE NOTE: This role will be based at the Recycling Centre with Gatwick Airport. You will be required to undergo a security/background check if you are to be successful for this position.

WHAT DOES THE ROLE ENTAIL?

  • Implement actions as directed to reduce or eliminate health and safety related risks.
  • Implement Behavioural Based Safety (BBS) program on a daily basis to confirm behaviours and processes are followed as specified.
  • Report and investigate incidents within the workplace and respond to or elevate issues of non‑compliance with safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ensure corrective and preventive actions are put in place.
  • Ensure that all drivers follow the correct transport procedures and report any defects in a timely manner.
  • Communicate all relevant DPDHL policies/site‑specific documents to frontline colleagues and monitor their implementation regularly.
  • Support the Site Lead & H&S Manager in managing the DHL Safety arrangements (SA) for the site, including detailed understanding, implementation of best practices and managing these across the site.
  • Manage day‑to‑day shift performance, clear understanding of objectives/KPIs for the role/shift/site, ensuring achievement of agreed customer KPIs and internal KPIs (e.g., safety, operational, employee related) to meet contractual obligations.
  • Communicate productivity expectations to the team, including to new hires.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of Roles & Responsibilities for the role and the team.
  • Support management with resource planning and management (rota creation, coverage gaps, holiday cover, review processes, monitor absence/sickness and address issues within guidelines).
  • Identify and raise training and qualification gaps through regular one‑to‑ones with the team and elevate to the training department.
  • Participate in regular operation reviews and conduct colleague briefings via Performance Dialogue boards.
  • Ensure colleagues register indirect hours properly by checking pending approvals in Smart Time.
  • Track employee attendance at the individual level, update resource planning tools when necessary and manage accordingly.
  • Contribute to performance tracking improvement by sharing opportunities for Standard Productivity Rates review with the line manager; conduct performance reviews and coaching with all direct reports and recommend performance ratings to management.
  • Support the Site Lead to review SOPs and WIs for the site, identifying best practices and deviations during execution.
  • Ensure colleagues are properly trained on the training matrix for each position, including onboarding trainings for new hires.

  • Working knowledge of GSE maintenance issues.
  • Understanding of the wider airport operational environment.
