Job Purpose
The Aviation Insurance Manager oversees the DHL Cargo Airline Pool Aviation Insurance, reporting to the VP, Global Head of Aviation & Aerospace. You will evaluate aviation risks from DHL's operations and provide insurance solutions aligned with the Group's strategy. You'll ensure efficient, compliant management of aviation insurance services, develop clear risk management policies, and support local entities and member airlines in identifying and managing exposures. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will guide on aviation insurance matters, support contract risk management, liaise with airlines, and help shape the global aviation insurance strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain Expertise: Keep up-to-date knowledge of DHL's operations, organizational structure, aviation risks, and IRM strategies, including risk financing for event-based exposures.

- Program Development: Support maintenance, development, and optimization of global aviation insurance programs, including renewals, financial reporting, and process improvements.
- Contracts Review: Ensure risk assumptions align with market practice and DHL strategy; negotiate adjustments with airline partners, service providers when needed.
- Claims: Manage claims processing ensuring timely incident reporting, coordination with loss adjusters, and timely payment flows. Assess claims trends, use loss data and engagement with the business to identify challenges and opportunities for the aviation insurance program to respond appropriately to changes in the risk profile.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Maintain detailed understanding of transport/logistics terms, aviation regulations, and insurance requirements to ensure that the policy remains compliant with changing local regulations.
- Trusted Advisor: Serve as the first point of contact for aviation insurance advice, supporting contract risk management and pricing decisions.
- Global Support: Contribute to the global IRM team on broader projects and ad-hoc initiatives beyond aviation insurance.
Your Profile
- Education & Qualifications: University degree and/or professional insurance qualification (ACII, FCII, CPCU, CEBS, IEBA, or equivalent).
- Experience: 10–15 years in insurance within a global insurer, broker, or in-house risk function, with a proven track record in cross-border program delivery. If you have fewer years of experience but believe your skills and expertise make you a strong match, we encourage you to apply — we value potential as much as proven track records.
- Aviation Expertise: Strong background in account management, servicing, placement, and negotiation of aviation insurance coverages, including international law.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience in logistics and/or global supply chain is a plus.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and spoken English; additional languages preferred. Ability to explain technical insurance content to non-technical audiences.
