Location: The role can be based anywhere in England. However, bi-weekly office attendance is required in Birmingham or Staines.
Job Purpose: We are looking for a Legal Counsel to support our freight forwarding and logistics businesses across the UK and Ireland. You will play a key role in identifying and mitigating legal risk, supporting commercial objectives, and providing pragmatic legal advice across a wide range of contractual, compliance, and dispute-related matters. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will help protect the business while enabling growth in a fast-paced, international environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day legal support across freight forwarding and logistics operations in the UK and Ireland.
- Draft, negotiate, and manage customer, supplier, customs, and freight forwarding contracts from opportunity through to implementation.
- Advise on legal risk, compliance, and governance matters in line with group policies and applicable laws.
- Support commercial strategies by delivering clear, practical legal advice to business stakeholders.
- Manage claims and disputes, including liaising with external counsel where required.
- Support compliance initiatives, including ESG-related matters and due diligence requests.
- Collaborate with internal teams including commercial, finance, credit, customs, risk, and compliance.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of legal processes and procedures.
Your Profile:
- Qualified lawyer with 2–5 years’ post-qualification experience.
- Strong grounding in English contract law; experience across multiple jurisdictions is an advantage.
- Knowledge of freight forwarding, transport, logistics, or customs law is highly desirable.
- Commercially minded, with the ability to balance legal risk and business priorities.
- Comfortable working independently and managing a varied workload to tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Pragmatic, solution-focused, and able to thrive in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
