Transport Operations Manager – DHL Express

Working Hours: Sunday – Thursday, 11 pm – 8 am

About the Role

We are currently seeking a Transport Operations Manager to drive day‑to‑day operations within the transport department, ensuring service, productivity, quality, security and cost targets are met, and standard procedures are followed. The role includes leading a team, providing development and motivation, and maintaining engagement and performance levels.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with service centres and attend operational meetings when required.
  • Review daily and weekly reports for legal compliance, vehicle utilisation and service delivery.
  • Complete any infringements, investigations and action plans.
  • Investigate pre‑departure issues and resolve as appropriate.
  • Review accident and damage data to identify trends and hotspots.
  • Measure performance against set KPIs and build action plans to address issues.
  • Confirm resource requirements – drivers, fleet and subcontractors – ensuring schedules are delivered and shortfalls resolved.
  • Action any issues such as short‑notice absences in the daily resource plan.
  • Resolve driver feedback queries and review fleet board scores weekly, delivering training and coaching to improve performance.
  • Deliver communication updates and daily briefings at agreed times.
  • Conduct 1‑1 meetings and facilitate listening groups to address team concerns and promote career development.
  • Conduct daily discussions with employees to inspire performance improvement and excellent customer service.

Your Profile – Skill Sets and Attributes

  • Excellent operational knowledge of national and European logistics processes.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Proficient with computer applications.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills and ability to develop internal and external networks.
  • Project management, personal influencing and consultative skills.
  • Analytical abilities with a solid understanding of commercial dynamics.
  • Self‑motivated with good judgment and decision‑making qualities.
  • Negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of UK DFT Security and Health & Safety processes and regulations.
  • Advantageous knowledge of CPC & Tachograph law and driver hours legislation.
  • Transport Planning and Telematics knowledge is advantageous.
  • Desirable experience in a Transport Management/Supervisory role.
