We are looking for a hands-on Financial Accountant who enjoys improving financial processes, solving problems and taking ownership—not simply maintaining existing routines.
The Role
Reporting directly to the CEO and working alongside an experienced Fractional Head of Finance, you will take ownership of the Company’s General Ledger and play a key role in strengthening the quality, reliability and control of our financial reporting.
This is a practical, hands‑on accounting role focused on month‑end close, balance sheet reconciliations, financial controls and continuous improvement rather than people management.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and maintain the General Ledger.
- Take ownership of the month‑end close process.
- Prepare journals, accruals, prepayments and accounting adjustments.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and supporting schedules.
- Support VAT, statutory reporting and year‑end processes.
- Prepare audit schedules and support external audits.
- Identify and resolve historical accounting issues.
- Improve accounting processes, documentation and financial controls.
- Work closely with the Finance Operations team to ensure accounting records accurately reflect operational activity.
- Support the ongoing development of a scalable Finance function.
- Your Initial Priorities
During your initial period with us, you will help to
- Restore confidence in the General Ledger.
- Strengthen balance sheet integrity and month‑end reporting.
- Standardise reconciliation processes and financial controls.
- Improve accounting documentation and management reporting.
- Support the continued development of a scalable Finance function.
About You
We’re looking for someone who has
- A minimum of
5 years’ practical accounting experience .
- Previous experience as a Financial Accountant, Management Accountant or similar.
- Strong General Ledger and month‑end experience.
- Excellent balance sheet reconciliation skills.
- Strong understanding of journals, accruals and prepayments.
- Experience preparing monthly management accounts.
- Experience supporting external audits.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and take ownership of deliverables.
- Nice to Have
- Experience with
SAP Business One .
- Experience within Financial Services or another regulated environment.
- Experience improving accounting processes and internal controls.
- Experience with
Power BI .
- AAT Level 4, or studying towards, part‑qualified or qualified ACCA, ACA or CIMA.
