Key Objectives

The Electrical & Control Systems technician will support the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of electrical and control systems associated with boiler and combustion equipment. The role will assist with electrical design, PLC programming, technical support and fault-finding activities across new and existing products ensuring systems are delivered safely, accurately and in line with company standards. This position will work closely with our engineering, manufacturing and commissioning teams to support project delivery, product development and operational improvements across the business. The role will also support the maintenance of electrical documentation, software backups and control system records and contribute towards standardisation and continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.

Main Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of electrical and control systems boiler, combustion and associated equipment
  • Assist with PLC and HMI programming, configuration and testing activities
  • Produce, review and maintain electrical drawings and associated engineering documentation
  • Support engineering activities relating to new product development and technology upgrades
  • Maintain software backups, control parameters and revision records in line with company procedures
  • Support fault finding and reactive problem solving activities across engineering and production operations
  • Work closely with manufacturing and commissioning teams to support project delivery and testing activities
  • Assist with standardisation and continuous improvement initiatives across electrical and control systems
  • Participate in testing, commissioning and validation activities where required
  • Support technical investigations and engineering problem solving activities
  • Ensure engineering documentation is completed accurately and maintained to company quality standards
  • Attend production, project and departmental meetings as required
  • Maintain communication with engineering, manufacturing and operational teams to support business priorities and delivery schedules
  • Maintain awareness of industry standards, best practice and emerging technologies relevant to electrical and control systems

Skills and Qualities

  • Strong understanding of electrical and control engineering principles
  • Ability to read, interpret and produce electrical drawings
  • Good understanding of electrical design software (AutoCAD/EPlan)
  • Experience with PLC & HMI programming and industrial control systems
  • Familiarity with Siemens TIA Portal or similar programming platforms
  • Good fault finding and problem solving capability
  • Strong organisational and workload management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross functional team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and structured approach to engineering tasks
  • Competent in Microsoft Office and engineering software applications
  • HNC/HND/Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification
  • Experience within boiler, combustion or industrial process systems would be advantageous
