DFSAfrica is seeking a Data Scientist to join our Connective the Dots Initiative (CDI) and Africa to the World (A2W) teams, working on advanced algorithms that automate inventory management for lifeāsaving medical products.
Responsibilities
- Work with the product and research teams, and academic partners, to implement sophisticated models on big data.
- Analyze large data sets from the product catalog, including prices, promotions, and inventory, and evaluate their impact on millions of dollars worth of inventory.
- Conduct all phases of research projects: define research questions, gather data, build and evaluate competing models, and communicate the results.
- Provide dataādriven, businessārelevant recommendations to stakeholders.
- Formalize model assumptions, detect and explain outliers, and propose fixes.
- Use Python, R, Scala, or similar languages to build statistical and machineālearning models.
- Communicate findings verbally and in writing to audiences of varying technical levels.
Qualifications & Skills
- Master's or PhD in Machine Learning, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or Economics.
- 3+ years of experience in an analytical role involving data extraction, statistical modeling, and communication.
- 3+ years of experience with data querying languages (e.g., SQL, Hadoop/Hive). Experience with MongoDB, MySQL, or similar databases is preferred.
- Fluency in a scripting or computing language such as Python, Scala, C++, or Java.
- Experience processing, filtering, and presenting large datasets (millions to billions of rows) from product or business functions.
- Handsāon experience with machineālearning/deepālearning techniques for realāworld problems.
- Natural curiosity, passion for solving realāworld problems, and ability to work in a dynamic environment.
