Exterior Lighting / Electrical Engineer
Know your way around exterior lighting design? Comfortable with electrical design? More importantly, are you the sort of person who sees a problem and thinks “I’ll sort it” rather than “that’s not my job”?
We’re looking for an Engineer to join the DFL team.
This isn’t a role where you’ll be stuck doing the same thing every day. You’ll work across highways, developments, public realm and infrastructure projects, helping turn ideas into practical, buildable lighting and electrical designs.
What you’ll be doing
- Producing exterior lighting and electrical designs
- Working on maintenance, improvement, S278 and development schemes
- Preparing calculations, drawings, reports and technical documentation
- Using software including AutoCAD, Lighting Reality and electrical design packages
- Working with clients, contractors, local authorities and other designers
- Responding to technical queries and solving problems as projects develop
- Considering buildability, value engineering, CDM, Health & Safety and the environment throughout the design process
- Helping projects get from “we need to do something here” to “here’s the solution”
What we’re really looking for
We’re not expecting someone to tick every box.
We want someone who has:
- Knowledge of exterior lighting design
- A good understanding of electrical design
- Experience within highways, infrastructure or development projects
- A practical, can-do attitude
- Good communication skills and confidence dealing with clients
- The curiosity to keep learning and developing
Experience with BS 5489, BS EN 13201, BS 7671, DMRB/MCHW, CDM, AutoCAD, Lighting Reality and Amtech would all be useful.
An HNC/HND/Degree, Exterior Lighting Diploma, HEA/ECS accreditation or professional membership would be great too — but experience, ability and attitude matter to us just as much as the letters after your name.
