Are you ready to lead a dynamic crew and ensure smooth operations at sea? DFDS is recruiting Captains and Chief Officers to oversee operations on the St Malo-Jersey route on the UK-flagged vessels. This is a fixed-term position where your expertise and leadership will contribute to a leading global maritime organisation.
Your Opportunity
Captain
- Overall command of the vessel, responsible for:
- Safe and efficient vessel operation
- Compliance with maritime regulations
- Welfare of crew and passengers
Your leadership will ensure DFDS maintains its high standards of safety, service, and operational reliability.
Chief Officer
- Support the Captain in:
- Day-to-day vessel operations
- Navigational safety
- Cargo handling and deck crew management
You will play a vital role in operational efficiency and ensuring a high-quality experience for passengers.
Key Responsibilities
Captain
- Full command of the vessel and leadership of all crew
- Ensuring compliance with STCW, SOLAS, MCA and company procedures
- Planning and executing safe and efficient voyages
- Overseeing crew training, performance, and welfare
- Maintaining excellent communication with DFDS operations and stakeholders
Chief Officer
- Assisting the Captain with navigation and vessel operation
- Supervising cargo operations and deck crew activities
- Ensuring safety, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance
- Supporting crew welfare, training, and performance monitoring
- Acting as the Captain’s deputy when required
What You Bring
We are looking for professionals who:
- Hold valid STCW certifications for their role (Master CoC for Captain, Chief Officer CoC for Chief Officer)
- Are competent in muster and emergency duties
- Uphold high standards of safety, operational reliability, and service
- Demonstrate excellent leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
- Work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines
- Show initiative, flexibility, and a solution-oriented mindset
- Remain calm under pressure and approach challenges positively
- Are fluent in English
