Do you enjoy working in complex environments where industry knowledge matters just as much as testing skill? Are you comfortable testing systems that support real world gas operations, not just generic software features? Looking for a Test Analyst role where experience in the industry is genuinely valued, not just listed as a nice to have?

I’m working with a growing UK software business whose products support energy providers across the market. They’re now looking to add a Test Analyst to their Billing Test team, specifically to strengthen their capability around gas and I&C workflows. This isn’t a volume hire. The team has grown over the last few months and is now at a stage where they can be selective, bringing in someone with the right background to fill a specific gap.

You’ll join an established test function and work closely with developers, BAs and other testers, focusing on manual testing across a highly integrated billing platform used by energy suppliers. The emphasis here is on understanding how gas systems work and applying that knowledge to testing real world scenarios.

Day to day, you’ll be:

  • Testing new and existing functionality within the billing platform
  • Designing and executing manual test cases
  • Validating API responses using tools like Postman
  • Querying databases to validate data and outcomes
  • Working collaboratively with developers and analysts to investigate defects

While automation exists elsewhere in the business, this role is firmly manual focused. Industry experience is just as important as tooling and there’s time and support to pick up anything new on the technical side.

What they’re really looking for:

  • Strong manual testing experience as a Test Analyst
  • Background in the gas industry, ideally with I&C exposure
  • Understanding of how gas billing or operational systems work
  • API testing experience, particularly JSON based APIs
  • Comfortable validating data using SQL or MySQL
  • Someone pragmatic, communicative and happy working as part of a team

Formal testing certifications are not essential. If you don’t already hold ISTQB, the business is happy to support this after probation.
