Dexerto is the leading voice in gaming, entertainment, and viral news, reaching millions of readers every month with breaking news, features, interviews, guides, and analysis across everything from gaming to anime, TV shows, movies, food trends, content creators, and the internet's biggest viral talking points.
We're looking to expand our roster of freelance writers who can contribute across Dexerto's coverage areas, helping cover shifts, holidays, and busy periods across the editorial team. It doesn't matter where you are based but we are particularly interested in writers who can cover evening shifts from 2pm - 10pm UK time.
We need people who understand online culture, have a strong instinct for the stories audiences care about, and thrive in a fast-moving news environment. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute across multiple coverage areas, including gaming, TV & Movies, anime, food, content creators, social media, and viral trends.
You don't need encyclopedic knowledge of every area we cover, but you should be curious, adaptable, and excited to learn about new topics and communities.
What You'll Be Doing- Writing fast, accurate, and engaging news stories across Dexerto's core coverage areas
- Covering gaming, TV & Movies, anime, entertainment, food, social media, content creators, and viral internet culture
- Identifying stories through social media, industry sources, and trend monitoring
- Pitching original story ideas and features
- Publishing and promoting stories across social media platforms including X and Facebook
- Writing social copy that encourages engagement and helps stories reach new audiences
- Working closely with editors to ensure stories meet Dexerto's editorial standards
- Contributing ideas for headlines, angles, and follow-up coverage
- Helping identify emerging trends before they become mainstream stories
- Experience writing for a digital publication, website, newspaper, magazine, or similar outlet
- Strong news judgment and an instinct for stories that will resonate with online audiences
- Excellent writing, research, and fact-checking skills
- A genuine interest in gaming, entertainment, social media, content creators, and online culture
- A strong understanding of social media platforms and how stories spread online
- Experience using platforms such as X, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitch, and Reddit
- Experience posting content to social media accounts on behalf of a publication is desirable
- The ability to work quickly without sacrificing accuracy
- Someone who is happy covering a wide range of topics and adapting to new trends
