This role is with one of Dex's trusted partner companies. We work closely with their teams to truly understand their culture, goals, and what they're looking for, so we can match you with the right opportunity and give you context about the role before you commit to a process.

The role is focused purely on technical leadership and deep problem-solving, not people management. You'll design the architecture for a system that scales across dozens of diverse businesses, working directly with the CTO and Engineering Lead to set technical direction. This seat is for a force multiplier who raises the bar through code and mentorship, not someone looking to manage a team.

The work:

  • Architect and build core components of a proprietary AI operating system, scaling it across a portfolio of B2B SaaS companies.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of complex features, from deep data integration to autonomous agent deployment.
  • Define technical strategy and make critical trade-off decisions that shape the platform's evolution and scalability.
  • Anchor critical workstreams, solving open-ended problems around heterogeneous data, operational knowledge encoding, and autonomous action.
  • Raise the engineering bar across a small, fast-moving team through code review, mentorship, and technical leadership.

What You Bring:

  • 5+ years shipping production systems end-to-end, with clear examples of architectural decisions that drove business impact.
  • Deep expertise in at least one modern stack (e.g., Python, Ruby, Go, Java) and the ability to quickly master new languages.
  • Proven track record as a technical force multiplier on small, fast-moving teams: setting the bar, mentoring, and accelerating peers.
  • Exceptional ability to break down ambiguous problems, prioritize high-leverage work, and communicate complex trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Based in London or willing to relocate.

Why apply through Dex:

This is a rare Staff-level role with deep technical ownership, not a management track. Dex helps you cut through the noise: sign up once, get matched to this role and others like it, and skip the cold application process. We'll brief you properly before any interview, ensuring you understand the full context and what makes this opportunity genuinely unique.

How to prepare for a job interview at Dex

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Dex uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
