The role

This company builds the AI workspace for some of the world's largest banks and regulated financial institutions.

They handle sensitive financial data, where compliance with SOC 2, GDPR, and FCA isn't a checkbox, but a core engineering challenge.

Backed by leading investors, they've seen rapid growth, following a record-breaking Series A round.

You'll join a lean, senior backend team, reporting directly to the founders.

This is a staff-track IC seat with visible influence, not a layer in a larger organisation.

You'll architect the core platform, build data pipelines for large-scale financial datasets, and productionise ML models in a highly regulated environment.

This role is for an engineer who wants to own critical systems end-to-end, not just contribute to a small component.

  • The work
  • Architect and scale backend services and APIs that power an enterprise AI workspace processing sensitive financial data.
  • Design and build high-performance data pipelines for large-scale financial datasets, ensuring accuracy and low latency.
  • Optimise Postgre SQL schemas and queries for high-throughput operations across distributed systems.
  • Partner with ML engineers to productionise complex models, integrating them seamlessly into backend systems.
  • Lead technical design reviews, mentor junior engineers, and shape the engineering culture as the platform scales.

What You Bring

  • 7+ years of backend engineering experience, with a proven track record of building and scaling production systems.
  • Expert-level Python and modern web frameworks (Fast API preferred), demonstrated by shipping production services, not just contributing.
  • Deep expertise in Postgre SQL, including query optimisation, indexing, and performance tuning under real load.
  • Experience running event-driven architectures with message brokers (e. g., Azure Service Bus, Rabbit MQ, Kafka) and task queues (e. g., Celery) at non-trivial throughput.
  • Strong security fundamentals (authn/authz, encryption, data handling) and ideally experience shipping inside regulated environments (SOC 2, GDPR, FCA).
  • Why apply through Dex

Senior roles at rapidly growing, well-funded AI companies are rare and highly competitive.

Dex helps you cut through the noise: sign up once, get matched to this role and others like it, and skip the cold application process.

We'll brief you properly before any interview, giving you an edge in a crowded market.

How to prepare for a job interview at Dex

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Dex uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
