This is a true product engineering role: you own features end-to-end, from customer conversation to deployment and operation. You’ll translate ambiguous problems into shipped product, without intermediate handholding. This isn’t just writing code; it’s building and operating the LLM features that power the platform, sitting in customer calls, and taking full responsibility for what you ship.

The work:

  • Own product features from initial customer problem to live deployment, translating ambiguity into tangible solutions.
  • Design, build, and operate core LLM features: evals, agent loops, and retrieval over complex research data.
  • Develop across the full stack – frontend, backend (Python), and AI components – to deliver integrated experiences.
  • Engage directly with customers to understand pain points and inform product decisions.
  • Take full operational responsibility for your code, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response.

What You Bring:

  • Proven experience building and operating LLM-powered features in production, with a deep understanding of evals, RAG, and tool use.
  • Strong full-stack engineering skills, capable of owning features from frontend to backend, with Python as your primary backend language.
  • Experience designing and building complex backend systems, including schema design, async processing, and robust observability.
  • A track record of shipping product in fast-paced, early-stage startup environments.

How to prepare for a job interview at Dex

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Dex uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
