Part-Time Personal Assistant
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
Hi! I am a lively, chatty and sociable young man at the age of 30 living in Dinas Powys, in the Vale of Glamorgan. I am looked after and live with my family. I now feel the time is right to spread my wings and get out into the community more independently. I really enjoy doing fun activities through the support of personal assistants. I love music, going to the theatre, getting involved with sports (especially boccia!), arts & crafts, shopping, bowling, bingo, drama groups, sensory activities, the outdoors when the weather is good and meeting up with friends; Just to name a few. Oh and how can I forget to mention, I love going out for food! I thrive from being around people and having company. I really enjoy making friends and having chit chatty conversations. I am a full time wheelchair user and have two different kinds of wheelchairs, an Electric and a Manual. I am looking for personal assistants who can help build the bridge to open doors old and new. As well as getting out and about to enjoy myself and socialise, myself and my family are also looking for support at home with some my personal care.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
This role is primarily for at home support. To provide all levels of personal care and assistance around the home such as pushing my wheelchair and supporting me with meal prep and eating.
To provide respite for my siblings.
This support is double-handed so you will work alongside another personal assistant or family member.
HOURS OF WORK
10 hours per week for personal care / at home support. This will include morning, evening and weekend hours, for approximately 1.5 hours at a time.
Flexibility is essential should these days need to change.
RATES OF PAY
£12.65 per hour
TASKS WILL INCLUDE
Hoisting/ manual handling.
Toileting/ personal hygiene.
Helping me with my physical needs.
Support when I am using my electric wheelchair and making sure I am comfortable.
To push me in my manual wheelchair and ensuring I am comfortable.
Support with cutting and opening food when eating.
Personal care at home (getting in and out of bed, and support with showering etc).
Although this vacancy is for personal care, there is scope for you to provide social support too. This means assisting with the following on occasion –
To take me out and support me to do things I enjoy doing.
Plan and organise what activities I will be doing each week with the input of my ideas.
Sometimes working alongside a second PA because sometimes I need 2:1 support at home for personal care or for certain activities out in the community.
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
Outgoing, fun, witty and chatty.
Patient and understanding of my needs.
Being able to work part of a team and communicate effectively.
Experience and or knowledge of working with someone with complex and mobile needs.
Organised and able to plan my schedule for me with the input of my ideas.
Flexible.
Driver preferred; Confident to drive a wheelchair accessible mobility van. This only applies if you are able to take on the occasional social support.
You can effectively work alongside another personal assistant when required.
Somebody who has energy, a bit of oomph and most importantly knows how to have fun and a laugh!!
ABOUT THE JOB
This position is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Disclosure (Police Check), which must be completed prior to the commencement of employment. The cost of this check will be covered by the Local Authority.
All necessary checks will be conducted to verify that any candidate has the legal right to work in the UK before employment begins.
Although this is a part-time role, it is a legitimate position requiring the submission of a National Insurance number. Employment will commence under an initial trial period.
Wages will be paid on a four-weekly basis and appropriate holiday pay will be provided.
