The Director will lead the regulatory function of Devro globally, ensuring that current and developing food legislation globally are understood, complied with and that their impact on global business can be optimised. The role will therefore be key in not only supporting current business but new product development, and further global expansion for the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and either influence to change or develop mitigation for any business impacting change in global casings legislation, for major markets e.g., additives, raw materials, contaminants and packaging.
  • Facilitate trade through provision of regulatory requirements e.g., identification of Export Health Certificates or other regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all initiatives have a regulatory assessment for all core target markets.
  • Guide the company to mitigate against the impact of large regulatory changes in any region or major national market.
  • Ensure we have adequate regulatory capabilities globally, identifying gaps, developing current resources internally or seeking additional external support as appropriate.
  • Support the safety assessment of new components or monitor or lobby national authority review of current components or contaminants as appropriate.
  • Design and modify the company’s regulatory function as required to suit an evolving environment.
  • Engage with relevant industry associations to assist in the monitoring and influencing of legislative or scientific issues.

About You:

Experience:

  • A degree in life sciences, with further relevant qualifications desirable.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience of food regulatory compliance and influencing on a global basis/supra-regional basis.
  • Experience in animal products would be an advantage.

Skills:

  • Understanding, managing, and influencing the external stakeholder environment, including Government & Trade bodies.
  • Effective communication internally and externally.
  • Technical thought leadership.
  • Strategic agility and influencing skills.
  • Self-motivated.

Knowledge:

  • Global food regulatory systems – EU, UK and US essential.
  • Food-related technology – ingredients, contaminants and residues.
  • Engagement with public authorities, customers and related industries.
