As Junior Security Operations Analyst for this leading provider of innovative solutions in the communications industry, you will be responsible for supporting the security operations center (SOC) in monitoring, detecting, and responding to security threats and incidents. You will work closely with senior analysts and other IT teams to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of information assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor security alerts and events from various sources, including intrusion detection systems (IDS), firewalls, and SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) systems.
- Conduct initial analysis and triage of security incidents to determine the severity and impact.
- Assist in the investigation of security breaches and other cyber security incidents.
- Support the implementation and management of security tools and technologies.
- Collaborate with IT and other departments to address security vulnerabilities and improve the overall security posture.
- Document and report security incidents, including the creation of incident tickets and detailed incident reports.
- Participate in regular security assessments and audits.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest security threats, trends, and technologies.
- Complete an on-call function for the team on a rota basis.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, etc.).
- Familiarity with security tools and technologies, such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, anti-virus software, and SIEM systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to learn and stay current with the evolving cybersecurity landscape.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker), SANS, or other cybersecurity certifications.
- Experience with scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, etc.).
- Hands-on experience in a security operations or related role.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS, CyberEssentials).
- A willingness to travel within the UK if required is essential when being considered for this post.
