Progression to the competent rate of pay usually takes between 18-24 months, subject to achieving the required standards. We are seeking a motivated and resilient individual to join our Fire Control team on a fixed term contract basis. Fire Control plays a vital role in our emergency response, managing 999 calls, mobilising resources, supporting operational incidents, and helping keep our communities safe., As a Fire Control Operator, you will be at the heart of our emergency response. You will:

  • Receive and manage 999 emergency calls.
  • Mobilise and coordinate operational resources.
  • Provide critical incident support and safety advice to callers.
  • Support operational crewing across the Service.
  • Maintain and update mobilising systems and response plans.
  • Work closely with other Fire and Rescue Services through our collaborative partnership arrangements.
  • Undertake administrative and data management activities that support service delivery.

This is a demanding but highly rewarding role where no two days are the same. You will receive comprehensive training and support to develop the skills and knowledge required to become fully competent in the role.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Remains calm and effective under pressure.
  • Communicates clearly, confidently and professionally.
  • Can think independently and make sound decisions.
  • Has strong organisational and multi-tasking skills
  • Is adaptable, resilient and self-motivated.
  • Has a confident telephone manner.
  • Can type at least 30 words per minute with 90% accuracy
  • Has good IT skills and an excellent standard of written and spoken English, Strengthen communication skills
  • Gain experience working in a critical emergency response environment.
  • Build resilience and confidence in managing high pressure situations
  • Broaden your understanding of Service delivery and operational response, Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
