Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support for a Pupil with an EHCP

Could you make a difference to one child’s school journey?

Kingskerswell Church of England Primary School are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team, providing dedicated 1:1 support for a primary-aged child with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who understands that successful 1:1 support is about much more than helping a child complete their work. It is about building trust, nurturing confidence, celebrating progress, overcoming barriers and supporting a child to develop the independence they need to flourish.

Working closely with the class teacher, SENDCo and wider school team, you will help the child to access learning, develop socially and emotionally, build confidence and participate fully in the life of the school.

We are looking for someone who can see and celebrate the individual child, recognising their strengths and potential while providing the consistent and sensitive support they need to thrive.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is warm, patient, positive and nurturing.
  • Has high expectations and believes that every child can make progress and succeed.
  • Understands that behaviour can be a form of communication and responds calmly, consistently and compassionately.
  • Can adapt learning and provide appropriate scaffolding while actively promoting independence.
  • Can build a trusting, positive and professional relationship with a child.
  • Can support communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and learning in response to individual needs.
  • Is able to recognise and respond sensitively to barriers to learning.
  • Works effectively as part of a team and communicates well with staff, parents/carers and other professionals.
  • Is observant and reflective and can contribute to monitoring progress towards EHCP outcomes.
  • Is flexible, resilient and willing to learn and develop their practice.
  • Is fully committed to safeguarding, inclusion and promoting the wellbeing of every child.

Experience of working with children with SEND and/or supporting a child with an EHCP would be advantageous. However, equally important are the personal qualities, commitment and positive attitude needed to build a strong relationship with a child and help them succeed.

What we can offer

At Kingskerswell Church of England Primary School, you will be joining a caring, welcoming and supportive school community where children are at the heart of everything we do.

We can offer:

  • A warm and supportive team of colleagues.
  • A strong Christian ethos in which every child is known, valued and encouraged to flourish.
  • Support from experienced teachers, our SENDCo and school leaders.
  • Relevant training and opportunities for professional development.
  • A school committed to inclusive practice and meeting the needs of the whole child.
  • The opportunity to make a genuine and lasting difference to a child’s experience of school.

Above all, we are looking for someone who will bring kindness, patience, consistency and encouragement to the role and who will take pride in helping a child grow in confidence, independence and achievement.

This post is specifically linked to the provision and funding associated with an individual pupil’s EHCP and is subject to the contractual arrangements set out at appointment.

Safeguarding

Kingskerswell Church of England Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointment will be subject to the school’s safer recruitment procedures, including appropriate pre-employment checks and an enhanced DBS check.
