SEN Teaching Assistant / Mealtime Assistant – Newtown Primary School (Academies for Character and Excellence)
Hours per week: 38. Start: September. Fixed term until 31 August 2027.
We are looking to appoint an exceptional candidate at Newtown Primary School who will support children with specialist additional needs. The role involves close collaboration with the class teacher and other professionals to ensure full access to the national curriculum and support children 1:1 and in small groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Support children 1:1 across all areas of the curriculum
- Ensure children have full access to the national curriculum and progress effectively
- Work under the direction of the class teacher and liaise with other professionals
- Work with individual pupils and small groups
- Show initiative, integrity and compassion in responding to children’s needs
- Plan, prepare and promote constructive play during the lunchtime period
- Ensure a safe and calm dining experience as a Mealtime Assistant
- Build rapport with children
- Support children during lunchtime in the dining room and playground
- Liaise verbally and in writing with other school staff
- Physically lift and move tables and chairs during set-up and clean-up
For the role you will need:
- Enthusiastic, flexible, highly motivated
- Experience working with children, ideally in a school environment
- Ability to inspire and motivate children and help them reach their best
- Strong initiative and ability to respond to challenges with integrity and compassion
- Passion for high expectations and outstanding progress for all children
