We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated
Out of County Education Lead to champion the educational needs of Children in Care placed outside the Local Authority area.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key strategic role, ensuring that some of our most vulnerable children and young people receive high-quality education that enables them to thrive and achieve their potential.
About the Role
As the Out of County Education Lead, you will work collaboratively with education providers, social care teams, commissioning colleagues and a wide range of multi-agency partners to ensure that Children in Care placed out of county have access to suitable, high-quality educational provision.
You will provide strategic oversight, professional challenge and expert advice in relation to educational arrangements within out of county placements, ensuring that provision meets statutory requirements, supports academic progress and promotes positive outcomes.
This is a highly autonomous role requiring strong professional judgement, excellent relationship-building skills and the ability to influence decision-making without direct line management responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic oversight of education arrangements for Children in Care placed out of county.
- Monitor and challenge the quality, suitability and effectiveness of educational provision.
- Work proactively with schools, alternative providers, Virtual Schools, Social Care teams and other partners to improve outcomes.
- Influence placement planning and decision-making to ensure educational needs remain central.
- Ensure statutory duties and requirements relating to education are met.
- Identify and address barriers to attendance, participation, progress and achievement.
- Champion the educational rights and aspirations of Children in Care.
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships across Local Authority, regional and national boundaries.
- Contribute to strategic planning, quality assurance and service development.
About You
- Has substantial experience within education, inclusion, Virtual School, school improvement or related services.
- Has a strong understanding of the educational needs of Children in Care and vulnerable learners.
- Possesses excellent knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance and educational pathways.
- Is confident in providing professional challenge and influencing partners at all levels.
- Has exceptional communication, negotiation and relationship-management skills.
- Can work independently, exercising sound professional judgement in complex situations.
- Is highly organised, analytical and outcome-focused.
- Is committed to improving life chances and achieving the best possible outcomes for children and young people.
