South Molton Community College is seeking a proactive, reliable and customer-focused Evening Site & Lettings Caretaker to join our friendly Site Team. This is a varied and rewarding role that combines premises management, facilities support, customer service and community engagement. Role Summary
As our Evening Site & Lettings Caretaker, you will be responsible for helping maintain a safe, secure and well-presented school environment while ensuring community users enjoy a professional and welcoming experience. From preparing facilities for sports clubs and community groups to securing the site at the end of the day, you will play a vital role in the operation of the school. Working independently for much of the evening, you will be trusted to manage facilities, respond to issues and ensure the site remains safe and operational.

- Supporting the maintenance and presentation of the school site
- Undertaking minor repairs and routine maintenance tasks
- Completing site inspections and statutory checks
- Supporting contractors and monitoring site safety
- Assisting with room setups, events and examinations
- Maintaining site records and compliance documentation

- Preparing facilities for evening and holiday bookings
- Welcoming community users and providing excellent customer service
- Supporting sports clubs, organisations and community groups using the site
- Monitoring facilities and ensuring safe, appropriate use
- Responding to enquiries and resolving issues professionally
- Helping maximise the success of the school's community lettings programme
- Security & Site Management
- Acting as a key holder and responding to alarms when required
- Carrying out site security checks and lock-up procedures
- Monitoring CCTV and responding to security concerns
- Ensuring facilities are safe, secure and ready for the next school day
- Working confidently and safely during lone-working periods
Note: This role is about much more than opening and closing buildings. You will be helping create opportunities for local clubs, organisations and community groups to use our facilities while ensuring students and staff return each morning to a safe, secure and well-maintained environment. Every evening brings different challenges, opportunities and interactions, making this a genuinely varied and rewarding position.
Candidate Profile
- You may already work in caretaking, facilities management, maintenance, hospitality, customer service, leisure, security or a similar environment.
- Enjoys working independently and taking responsibility
- Has excellent customer service and communication skills
- Is practical, organised and solution-focused
- Can prioritise tasks and respond calmly to changing situations
- Is reliable, flexible and takes pride in their work
- Is comfortable interacting with members of the public
- Has a commitment to maintaining safe and welcoming environments
- Previous experience in premises management, maintenance or community lettings would be an advantage, but we welcome applicants with transferable skills and a willingness to learn
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
- Understanding of basic building maintenance and site management practices
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements, including COSHH and safe systems of work
- Awareness of security procedures and lone working responsibilities
- Ability to undertake routine maintenance and minor repair tasks safely
- Ability to prioritise workloads and respond effectively to operational issues
- Good customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain accurate records and complete compliance documentation
- Competent IT skills, including the use of email, electronic booking systems and Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work independently, use initiative and make sound judgments
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, staff, visitors and community users
