Teaching Responsibilities
- Teach Design and Technology across the age and ability range, challenging and inspiring all students with clear objectives, in line with department schemes of work and school policies.
- Plan and deliver lessons tailored to students’ educational needs, referencing prior attainment, SEN and EAL as required, ensuring equal opportunities for all and enabling students to achieve their potential.
- Assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of students, ensuring marking and assessment are consistently high quality and in accordance with the school assessment policy.
- Maintain effective behaviour management in the classroom, using positive strategies to keep students fully engaged.
- Monitor student progress and achievement, identifying appropriate intervention strategies for underachieving pupils.
- Set high expectations, fostering a positive learning attitude through focused teaching and the development of constructive relationships.
- Manage, develop and share resources to enhance the teaching of DT.
- Promote enrichment and extension of DT across the department, participating in events, trips and visits.
- Contribute to the objectives of the curriculum area within the school and take part in an annual review of the subject and curriculum area.
- Engage in the school’s professional development programme, aspiring to be a lifelong learner and maximizing opportunities to make an impact within the role.
- Support and reinforce the aims, ethos, policies and procedures of the school and Trust with students, staff, parents and other stakeholders where appropriate.
Pastoral Responsibilities
- Promote the general well-being and progress of students in the tutor group.
- Provide guidance and advice on educational and social matters, responding quickly and constructively to individual needs.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality and reasons for absence, keeping a register in accordance with legal requirements.
- Record information on students and raise issues appropriately with the Head of Year.
- Deliver the PSHEE curriculum in line with the school timetable.
- Act as Form Tutor where required.
General Duties
- Attend all departmental and staff meetings.
- Play an active part in the life of the school, sharing the aims and objectives.
- Contribute to the protection of children by reporting any concerns to the Child Protection Lead in accordance with school policy.
Key Tasks
- Teach Design and Technology to Key Stage 3 and GCSE level.
- For experienced candidates, a Second in Department role is available with leadership TLR.
Location & Schedule: North Devon, Devon. Full time. To start September 2026 or as soon as possible.
Salary: MPS – UPS – £32,916 – £51,048 FTE (pro‑rated), plus TLR2A allowance available for the right candidate.
