About BeYourBest Mentoring
Our mission is to support young people in becoming the best version of themselves, so they can move confidently towards a happy and successful future. Our vision is to deliver an education as unique as every individual, helping to shape resilient young adults who make confident and ambitious life choices.
We support children and young people with SEND, SEMH needs, school avoidance, interrupted education and other barriers to learning. Everything we do is guided by our values:
- Young people are at the heart of everything we do.
- Every child deserves to be seen, heard and supported to thrive.
- Relationships are built through honesty, trust and non-judgemental communication.
- Safe environments allow young people to take risks, make mistakes and grow.
- Understanding, empathy, flexibility and humour help us create lasting change.
About the opportunity
BeYourBest Mentoring works with schools, local authorities and families to provide bespoke educational tuition and mentoring for children and young people who face barriers to education. We are building a network of self-employed associates who can take on these engagements.
Many of the learners we support have experienced school avoidance, exclusion, unmet SEND needs, anxiety or long periods out of education. This is more than academic tuition: associates build trusted relationships, create a safe space for learning and help young people re-engage with education and their future.
Referrals cover Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Post-16, with sessions taking place in homes, schools and community settings. Engagements may involve:
- Literacy and numeracy intervention
- SATs preparation
- Functional Skills English and Maths
- GCSE and A-Level tuition
- SEMH and SEND provision
- Educational re‑engagement and transition support
- Confidence, resilience and wellbeing mentoring
- Support for children missing education or at risk of exclusion
Why work with BeYourBest Mentoring?
This is an opportunity to change the trajectory of a young person’s life. You choose the work that fits around your existing commitments, while making a genuine and lasting difference to the children who need it most. You’ll join a network of associates who believe every young person deserves an education that recognises their strengths, interests and individual needs.
How the associate relationship works
Associates run their own businesses. The full terms are set out in our Associate Agreement, which you will receive before any work begins. In summary:
- No obligation either way. We do not guarantee any volume of work. When a referral comes in, we offer it to suitable associates, and you are free to accept or decline any offer without penalty.
- You control how you deliver. Each engagement comes with agreed outcomes (for example, targets from a school or an EHCP). You decide how to plan and deliver the sessions, which teaching approaches to use and which resources to bring.
- You are free to work elsewhere. You can work for other organisations and for your own private clients alongside any work you do with us.
- Substitution. If you cannot deliver an agreed session, you may arrange for another BeYourBest associate to cover it. Because of safeguarding requirements, any substitute must have completed our vetting process.
- Invoicing. You invoice us for the sessions you deliver, and we pay against your invoices on the terms in the Associate Agreement.
What an engagement typically involves
- Delivering 1:1 sessions tailored to the young person’s needs and the agreed outcomes
- Supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH and additional learning needs
- Providing session reports, which the schools and local authorities that commission us require
- Building positive working relationships with young people and their families
- Liaising with schools, local authorities and other professionals involved with the young person
- Following safeguarding procedures at all times
Requirements
To be offered engagements, you will need:
- QTS, a PGCE, QTLS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification for academic tuition.
- Experience of working with children and young people
- Strong safeguarding knowledge and professional practice
- A full driving licence valid in the UK and access to a vehicle. This is needed because engagements take place in homes, schools and community venues across a large, largely rural area where public transport is limited. If you have a disability that affects driving, please tell us and we will consider whether reasonable adjustments are possible.
- Comfort working in homes, schools and community venues
- SEN, SEMH or neurodiversity-related qualifications or training
- Experience of alternative provision settings
- Experience of supporting pupils with EHCPs
- Experience of preparing learners for SATs, Functional Skills, GCSEs and/or A-Levels
- Specialist subject knowledge in English, Maths, Science or other curriculum subjects
