Wembury Parish Council is looking to appoint a new Parish Clerk/Proper Officer.

This is a part time position (initially 12 hours per week), is home based and includes attendance at monthly Parish Council meetings (held in the evening) and other regular committee meetings. Salary is based on SCP pay scales and dependant on relevant qualifications and experience (LC scale point 24-28 £35412 – 39152 pro rata)

We are looking for someone with good organisational, literacy, numeracy, accountancy software and IT skills with recent relevant experience in parish council or local government procedures highly desirable but not essential.

The Parish Clerk will need to produce high quality work with accuracy and precision as are personal qualities of integrity, discretion, objectivity and impartiality. You will be required to prepare agendas, take minutes and provide clear guidance to Councillors and dealing with any actions arising. The clerk will be key to ensuring that all legal, statutory and other governing provisions relating to the Council’s work are observed and that all Council meeting are properly administered and decisions effectively implemented. The clerk will need to liaise with members of the public and contractors on a regular basis and will require excellent interpersonal skills.

The Clerk will need to be able to store files and to have space to safely work at home (a small office allowance is payable for this) and will work alongside the Council’s Responsible Finance Officer. They will be required to take on occasional responsibility for the work of the RFO.
