Training Programme
Training lasts seven weeks at Police Headquarters, Exeter, Monday to Friday. Commitment required before applying. Initial training course runs 9am–4pm for 7 weeks at Police Headquarters, Middlemoor, Exeter. Second phase includes a tutor-led shift pattern and a further two-week course at Exeter Headquarters. No annual leave is granted during the training period.
Responsibilities
- Handle calls professionally with empathy and patience, gathering vital details and asking relevant questions to log information accurately.
- Respond to both emergency and non-emergency calls within Devon and Cornwall.
- Act as the first point of contact for the community, offering help when people need it most.
- Work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends and some bank holidays.
- Adhere to a strict shift pattern that is set and cannot be adjusted.
Qualifications
- Minimum age 18 by the start date.
- Emotionally resilient, capable of handling distressed callers and sensitive information.
