About the Role
We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client, a student accommodation provider, for a reliable and hands-on Handyman/Maintenance Operative to provide cover on-site. They are looking for someone to provide essential cover - particularly around peak reporting periods at the start and end of the week when students are most likely to report issues with their rooms. This is a general maintenance/handyman position focused on day-to-day repairs and site upkeep, rather than a senior or supervisory role, and would suit someone looking for flexible full-time work.
Key Responsibilities
- To ensure all Residents, Guests and Contractors receive exceptional customer service and care, consistently presenting a professional and courteous approach as a face of the business.
- Completing all shift procedures, including but not limited to:
- Checking all Plant Room Equipment is in good working order
- Ensuring Fire Exits are closed and free of obstacles
- Checking the Fire Panels and Emergency Lighting Battery Panels for faults
- Ensuring all storage rooms, risers, plant rooms and cleaning cupboards are locked and secure
- Ensuring the Bin Stores are tidy and empty bins are moved to the front
- Checking all doors to the buildings are secure, and clearing litter from around the perimeter of the building and common outside areas
- Completing any maintenance jobs as given by the Assistant Manager
- Completing weekly checks
- Completing monthly calorifier temperature checks
- Supervising all service contractors during maintenance visits and call-outs; ensuring contractor activity is conducted safely and in line with company policies/service agreements
- Actively participating in ensuring the company meets all of its business KPIs
- Being vigilant and aware regarding all Health & Safety issues
- Working closely with all departments to ensure excellent communication across all areas; being proactive and willing to assist other departments when required
- Undertaking all mandatory online training as required (e.g. fire safety, health and safety, GDPR)
- Working as part of a diverse team with colleagues from different viewpoints, cultures and countries
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in a handyman, maintenance, or facilities role (preferred)
- General manual repair skills
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Must be local to the site
- Right to work in the UK
- Happy to complete a short screening call with us before being put forward to the client
