Our client, a prestigious residential developer known for delivering landmark schemes across London, is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join their team on a flagship high‑rise residential development in East London. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the technical design delivery across multiple phases of a complex, high‑profile project that is currently underway.
As Design Manager, you will be responsible for leading and managing a team of two Technical Managers, each overseeing different phases of the development. You will work alongside senior technical staff and coordinate with framing contractors to ensure seamless design delivery from concept through to completion. This is a hands‑on role requiring someone who can balance strategic oversight with practical problem‑solving, ensuring technical excellence across all phases of the project.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and mentor a team of two Technical Managers, supporting their development and progression
- Oversee technical design delivery across multiple phases of a high‑rise residential scheme
- Coordinate design activities between pre‑construction and delivery phases
- Ensure compliance with Building Safety Regulations and current building standards
- Work collaboratively with the build team, contractors, and design consultants
- Resolve technical design issues quickly and effectively
- Manage the interface between design and construction teams
- Report to the Principal Designer/Head of Technical on project progress
- Proven experience managing technical teams (minimum 1-2 direct reports)
- Multi‑phase project delivery on high‑rise residential developments
- Strong delivery‑focused background – we need someone who has seen projects through on site, not just pre‑construction
- Background from either a developer, contractor, or architectural practice environment
- Experience working with high‑rise residential, and ideally exposure to hotels, cruise terminals, or similar complex buildings
- Hands‑on experience coordinating with structural engineers, MEP consultants, and specialist contractors
- A proactive problem‑solver who can think on their feet
- Someone who thrives in a fast‑paced, results‑driven environment
- Strong communication skills to work across multi‑disciplinary teams
