The Opportunity
We’re working exclusively with a pioneering, purpose-led tech organisation that’s building a high-impact data platform focused on global systems transformation. With strong backing from leading philanthropic funders and a team of domain experts, they’re seeking a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to own the technical vision and scale the platform, team, and infrastructure.
This is a hands-on leadership role at the heart of a growing organisation solving complex, real-world challenges through technology. If you’re looking to build, lead, and scale a team working on truly meaningful problems—this is your opportunity.
The Role
As CTO, you’ll lead across Software, Data Engineering, and Machine Learning teams, with direct responsibility for architecture, infrastructure, and delivery. You’ll manage managers, guide technical direction, and work closely with Product and Analytics to deliver scalable, high-performance tools.
Key responsibilities:
- Define and deliver a robust technical roadmap in line with product strategy and mission impact.
- Build and manage multiple layers of leadership—including managers of technical teams (software, data, ML).
- Scale engineering and data infrastructure to support a growing user base and rapidly expanding capabilities.
- Own technical hiring, mentorship, delivery, and culture across multiple disciplines.
- Champion architectural problem-solving and technical excellence, including whiteboarding sessions.
- Embed long-term thinking into infrastructure, security, scalability, and team development.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a proven technical leader who’s scaled early-stage companies into high-performing, product-led organisations. You’re comfortable with ambiguity, highly collaborative, and focused on long-term impact.
Must-Have Experience:
- 10+ years in technical leadership roles (CTO, VP Eng, Director of Engineering).
- Managed managers across technical disciplines (not just ICs).
- Demonstrated experience scaling engineering teams in an early-stage, high-growth environment.
- Deep experience in cloud-native systems, data architectures, and production ML/AI.
- Strong communicator with a product and delivery mindset.
Not the Right Fit If:
- Your experience is largely fractional, freelance, or consulting-based—this is a full-time, embedded leadership role.
- You’ve had short stints across multiple recent roles without clear progression or delivery impact—we\’re looking for candidates who have stayed long enough to scale teams and systems.
- Purpose-driven, collaborative, and inclusive culture
- 25 days holiday + public holidays + birthday leave + Christmas closure
- 20 days “work-from-anywhere” annually
- Private medical, enhanced parental leave
- L&D budget, team offsites, and full home-office setup support
