Our client is a well-established media technology company, with a bespoke platform built on MongoDB and AWS that powers how campaigns are planned, delivered, and measured for clients worldwide.

They're looking for someone to lead the team that keeps that platform running, investigates issues, and continuously improves it!

What you'll be doing

  • You'll lead a team of 5 platform engineers, owning the day-to-day reliability of the platform: availability, performance, incident response, and getting to the bottom of why things break when they do.
  • This is application support, not infrastructure build or third-party integrations, so if you've come up through third- or fourth-line support and are ready to step into leadership, this should feel familiar.
  • Alongside the team management (mentoring, hiring, capacity planning, covering EST shift overlap with the US team), you'll be the bridge between engineering, the business, and the wider global team across the UK, US, and offshore.
  • You'll also drive the essential stuff: better runbooks, tighter process, less manual firefighting.

What you'll need

  • You're comfortable navigating AWS (Google Cloud or Azure concepts are fine too, just need the underlying logic).
  • You've got deep application support experience.
  • Beyond that, we're not looking for a checklist of tools: working knowledge of Docker, Terraform, MongoDB, Java, or SQL Server is a bonus, not a requirement, and general comfort with a scripting/OOP language plus Agile/DevOps ways of working will serve you well.

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
