The Scrum Master is responsible for enabling Agile teams to deliver high-quality products efficiently and effectively. This role facilitates core Scrum ceremonies, coaches team members in Agile principles, and proactively removes impediments to maintain productivity. The position works closely with Product Owners to ensure backlog clarity and prioritisation, tracks team performance using Agile metrics, and promotes a culture of continuous improvement.
The Scrum Master applies strong knowledge of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe), excellent facilitation skills, and collaborative leadership to support both team-level delivery and wider organisational Agile transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitate Scrum ceremonies, including Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
- Coach team members on Agile methodologies and best practices.
- Remove impediments and protect the team from external disruptions.
- Collaborate with Product Owners to maintain a clear, organised, and prioritised backlog.
- Track, analyse, and communicate progress using Agile metrics such as velocity and burndown charts.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, psychological safety, and high performance.
- Support broader Agile transformation activities across the organisation.
- Ensure adherence to organisational standards, Agile best practices, and relevant legislation (e.g., FCA principles, Consumer Duty, TCF).
- Promote Agile discipline and consistency across cross-functional teams including engineering, QA, product, and infrastructure.
- Champion metrics-led delivery by working with senior leadership to establish KPIs that link delivery outputs to strategic technology OKRs.
- Proactively manage dependencies across internal workstreams and external partners, ensuring alignment and timely delivery.
- Drive backlog hygiene and sprint discipline, supporting Product Owners with story readiness, acceptance criteria, and estimation quality.
- Support change management initiatives, including technology modernisation and system decommissioning.
- Ensure alignment between Agile delivery and strategic technology priorities, such as legacy decommissioning, platform improvements, and partner integrations.
- Participate in delivery governance forums, providing updates, analytics, risks, and insights to senior leadership.
- Proven experience as a Scrum Master.
- Experience managing remote and hybrid Agile teams.
- Exposure to regulatory or compliance-driven sectors (e.g., insurance, financial services, health).
- Experience supporting delivery within cloud-native environments (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure).
- Working knowledge of Jira Advanced Roadmaps or similar portfolio planning tools.
- Proficiency with Agile delivery tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello).
- Strong understanding of Agile frameworks including Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe.
- Excellent facilitation, coaching, conflict-resolution, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Valid Scrum Master certification (e.g., CSM, PSM I or higher).
- Experience creating commercially robust business cases for senior leadership.
- Background in software development or a technical discipline.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of scaling frameworks (e.g., SAFe, LeSS, Nexus).
