A leading global Insurtech organisation is seeking a Platform Engineer to maintain, optimise, and evolve its cloud platform. This high-impact, hands-on role focuses on low-level cloud architecture, developer experience and tooling, SRE, and cloud security. The successful candidate will join a team of experienced platform and cloud engineers to improve scalability, reliability, developer experience, and time-to-market for product teams. This role combines deep experience operating large-scale cloud systems with a passion for streamlining the path to production.
What the Role Will Involve
- Leading complex platform initiatives from concept through to production, ensuring alignment, unblocking dependencies, and delivering reliable platform components that underpin core products.
- Maintaining and operating a global, highly available infrastructure platform spanning five regions with 24/7 usage.
- Supporting customer success and product development teams to deliver value, including participation in out-of-hours on-call rotas.
- Championing engineering best practices across CI/CD, SRE, networking, and cloud security to raise standards of quality and reliability.
- Collaborating with engineering teams to guide cloud architecture decisions and ensure a smooth, efficient road to production.
- Mentoring engineers, developing their design and architectural thinking, and strengthening their ability to operate systems at scale.
- Researching and driving adoption of tools, frameworks, and architectural patterns that enhance developer experience, platform resilience, and delivery velocity.
The Ideal Candidate

- Has deep experience operating Kubernetes workloads at scale and maintaining a secure, well-governed networking stack.
- Advocates for clear, maintainable, and well-tested Infrastructure as Code configurations.
- Is collaborative and approachable, equally comfortable advising platform users as they are solving complex technical challenges.
- Stays current with industry best practices and proactively identifies opportunities to improve developer experience.
- Understands the balance between providing a structured “paved road” and allowing flexibility where appropriate.
- Is passionate about automation and reducing manual toil.
- Is happy to collaborate in person two days per week in a London office.
Technical Requirements
- Extensive experience designing, building, and operating distributed AWS cloud infrastructure, including networking, IAM, observability & monitoring, security & governance, and Kubernetes clusters.
- Deep knowledge of Helm and Terraform best practices.
- Proven ability to lead initiatives from discovery through delivery, balancing efficiency and ease of use.
- Strong hands-on experience in observability, monitoring, and SRE (Datadog experience beneficial).
- Experience modernising legacy systems, simplifying architecture, and reducing cognitive load.
