We are looking for a hands-on Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to take ownership of a modern Azure cloud environment within a fast-growing SaaS and payments technology organisation. This is a high-impact contract role where you will lead the management, optimisation, and security of a medium-scale Azure estate, working closely with a talented engineering team to deliver scalable and secure infrastructure. What You’ll Be Doing
- Azure Cloud Management: Own and optimise the Azure cloud infrastructure for reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Enterprise Technology Management: Manage and support core enterprise platforms including Microsoft 365 administration, identity and user management, and internal technology support.
- Azure Virtual Desktop: Maintain and support the AVD environment used by engineering and operational teams.
- Network & Connectivity: Manage secure remote access including VPN connectivity for engineers and secure integrations with third-party systems.
- Cloud Security: Strengthen cloud security posture by implementing Azure security best practices and managing access controls.
- Infrastructure Design: Work with development teams to design and implement scalable cloud infrastructure using cloud-native and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
- Disaster Recovery & Resilience: Analyse and design disaster recovery architecture to ensure business continuity.
- Cost Optimisation: Drive FinOps practices to improve cost visibility and efficiency across the Azure environment.
- Monitoring & Incident Response: Implement monitoring and observability to maintain platform health and respond quickly to incidents.
Skills & Experience Required
- Strong experience with Microsoft Azure architecture and services.
- Experience designing cloud-first architectures using Azure PaaS.
- Knowledge of Azure data services (Data Factory, Data Warehouse, Azure SQL / Elastic pools).
- Experience with containerisation and Azure container services.
- Strong networking knowledge including VNETs, NSGs, Front Door, Application Gateway, Azure Firewall, VPN gateways.
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or Bicep).
- Experience using Azure DevOps pipelines for infrastructure and application deployments.
- Microsoft 365 administration experience.
- Experience supporting Azure Virtual Desktop.
- Comfortable working in regulated or compliance-driven environments.
- Experience collaborating with agile engineering teams and third-party technology partners.
Nice to Have
- Azure certifications such as AZ-305 (Solutions Architect) or AZ-400 (DevOps Engineer).
