Develop's Software Engineering team have been tasked with supporting the development and improvement of a live consumer mobile application, focusing on maintaining existing features, shipping incremental updates, and helping ensure the product remains stable, polished, and scalable as it grows.
About the Product
This is a consumer-facing mobile application focused on helping users build better everyday habits through a simple, intuitive digital experience. The product is live, actively used, and supports users across multiple regions and languages. The team behind it is small and product-focused, with an emphasis on usability, performance, and shipping incremental improvements that meaningfully improve the end-user experience.
The Role
We’re looking for a developer to join the team and help maintain, improve, and expand an existing consumer mobile app. The role is intentionally scoped to free up senior engineering time for larger architectural work and new feature development. You’ll focus on well-defined tasks across existing features, localisation, bug fixing, and marketing-led updates. You’ll be expected to work largely autonomously, taking ownership of tickets and shipping updates end to end. Prior React Native experience is not required if you are a strong React developer with solid TypeScript skills and good problem-solving ability. React Native training and support is available, which may influence the initial salary band.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Developing and maintaining existing app features
- Rolling out new languages and managing localisation updates
- Fixing bugs and improving app stability and performance
- Implementing marketing content and in-app campaigns
- Making UI updates based on designs, copy, and product requirements
- Working from existing tickets or specs with minimal supervision
- Shipping regularly to iOS and Android using established release pipelines
- Helping keep the app polished, accurate, and up to date for users
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong experience with React
- Heavy real-world use of TypeScript
- Solid understanding of component architecture, state management, and hooks
- Good problem-solving and debugging skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks
- Comfortable working in an existing codebase
- Strong attention to detail, especially for UI, copy, and localisation changes
Nice to Have
- Experience with React Native
- Experience with mobile app development on iOS or Android
- Familiarity with Firebase (Auth, Firestore, Functions)
- Experience working on consumer apps or subscription-based products
- Exposure to localisation workflows or multi-language apps
Training and Support
If you’re a strong React developer but new to React Native, support is available to help you transition. You’ll be working within an established codebase with clear patterns, components, and tooling. Support from a senior developer is available when needed. Candidates requiring React Native training will be considered at a lower initial salary band, with scope to increase as proficiency grows.
What Success Looks Like
- You pick up tasks with minimal hand-holding
- You ship clean, reliable updates consistently
- You reduce the volume of day-to-day work needing senior review
- You help keep the app stable, polished, and user-friendly
- You contribute to a steady release cadence across iOS and Android
Working Style
- Async-friendly communication
- Pragmatic over perfect
- Focused on shipping and improving real user experience
- Small team, low ego, high ownership
Why Join
- Work on a live consumer app used by real people
- See your work shipped to production regularly
- Be part of a small team where your output has visible impact
- Grow your React Native experience in a supportive environment
- Help build a product focused on real-world health and behaviour change
