Overview

DWT is Germany’s largest Independent Service Provider, offering a comprehensive service package for Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) from a single source. With more than 6,600 WTGs under contract and more than 1,800 employees operating in several European countries, Deutsche Windtechnik sets the bar for Independent Service Provider services in the European wind energy sector. In 2015, Deutsche Windtechnik entered the UK market and now has over 640 WTGs/700MW under Service & Maintenance contracts. We aim to expand further into the onshore market. Our head office is in Livingston. You will work closely with all departments in the UK and other group companies to provide a level of service expected from a market leader. The majority of your time will be spent in the UK, but you may be required to spend periods working with colleagues in Germany and in other DWT group countries. We prioritise our people and offer customers a choice beyond traditional OEM service provision. Our vision is to be the preferred independent service provider for all wind farm owners and operators by delivering services that are safer, cleaner, more efficient, compliant, and right the first time.

Role Clarification

The wind turbine technician will be responsible for the routine preventive maintenance of the wind turbine, including its mechanical, electrical, gearbox, and hydraulic systems. Unscheduled maintenance, carrying out retrofits, and addressing emergency breakdowns and major component exchanges are also key responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • The provision of preventative and corrective maintenance on onshore wind turbines as per DWT instructions
  • Completion of all relevant paperwork, including work order cards, checklists, AWPs, etc.
  • Lead a team of technicians, ensuring all health and safety procedures are followed
  • Replacement of major turbine components, e.g. generators and gearboxes
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Assist in all areas of site operations
  • Provide safe access and egress to all people in the work party
  • Establish and maintain general safety in the system
  • Comply with customer site rules
  • Report all incidents and occurrences as per DWT\’s Health and Safety policy
  • Be willing to undergo training and conduct statutory inspections as required
  • Partake in the rota for on-call cover on weekends and bank holidays

Minimum Qualifications

  • Relevant formal qualifications, minimum SVQ/NVQ level 3 (electrical, mechanical, etc) and/or comprehensive experience in a relevant industry
  • Ideally two years of hydraulic, electrical, or mechanical experience in an industrial environment (e.g. wind farms, power stations, industrial process plant or similar heavy engineering maintenance environments)
  • Valid driving licence
