Position Overview
As Director – Safe AI, you will support the evolution of a strong, inclusive AI governance framework that enables innovation while maintaining clear standards and regulatory alignment. Working together with risk, technology and business teams, you will help embed practical controls that allow delivery teams to understand expectations and progress confidently. This is an opportunity to guide a central AI Safety team focused on building a consistent, responsive and supportive experience for internal customers. Through your work, you will help create a dependable, transparent and collaborative pathway that supports faster, safer AI adoption across the organisation.

Your key responsibilities
- Lead delivery of SafeAI programme, with accountability for transitioning from interim governance processes to a future‑state AI governance model embedded in core tooling and ways of working.
- Shape and embed structured, standardised controls that mitigate AI Risk and support consistent AI use case delivery, reducing delays while maintaining strong governance.
- Drive reduction in AI approval and delivery cycle times by replacing manual reviews with standardised, risk‑based and embedded and automated controls, while maintaining control integrity.
- Act as a change leader and focal point for AI Safety, ensuring new AI governance standards are understood, adopted and consistently applied across delivery teams.
- Lead and develop a team providing hands‑on enablement and advisory support on AI safety to internal customers progressing AI use cases through P2P.
- Support proactive engagement with regulators, audit and internal assurance by providing transparent evidence of AI governance effectiveness.
Your skills and experience
- Proven experience in technology governance, risk management and technology delivery within a regulated financial services environment.
- Strong experience supporting and developing teams that collaborate with internal customers to deliver shared outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to support process improvement that enables faster delivery while maintaining dependable regulatory and risk standards.
- Clear understanding of Artificial Intelligence risks, controls and regulatory expectations.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage, support and build trust with senior stakeholders and control functions.
- Ability to design and embed structured standards within complex, matrixed environments in a collaborative and inclusive way.
