Join Deutsche Bahn as a Mobile Operative. In this role you’ll prepare trains to ensure safe journeys for customers. This position is part of the ground staff team and will involve travel to multiple sites, including DB Cargo UK locations and infrastructure worksites.

Rail is one of the safest and most eco‑friendly means of transport. One freight train can carry enough material to build 30 houses. Our services replace over 22 million truck movements every year, saving 7 million tonnes of carbon emissions. As a Mobile Operative you will directly contribute to reducing carbon emissions and shifting traffic from roads to rail.

Working Conditions

Work outside in all weather conditions. Standard hours are 35 h per week. The role requires shift patterns, including unsociable hours.

What we’re looking for – Entry Requirements
  • Full clean, manual driving licence
  • Located within a 1‑hour commute to Willesden Junction
  • Maths & English GCSE Grade C/4 or above
  • Previous rail experience is a bonus; a 5‑week residential training course will be provided.
  • Highly motivated, flexible, capable of teamwork and lone working, attentive to detail, and safety‑focused.

  • Full training into the role – 5‑week residential training (subject to location)
  • Starting salary: £30,412 per annum plus shift allowance of £3,936 per annum
  • Following probationary period: £31,825 per annum + shift allowance
