We are planning ahead here at DB Cargo UK and are currently advertising for potential Locomotive Maintainers to apply to join our Asset Management and Maintenance function based at Doncaster. As a Locomotive Maintainer, you’ll work with guidance of the Maintenance Team Co‑ordinator and the wider team to ensure that all work associated with the maintenance, repair and overhaul of DB Cargo UK and third‑party locomotive fleet is completed in a safe, thorough, professional and timely manner. The Asset Management and Maintenance team at DB Cargo UK ensure that all our wagons and locomotives are maintained and serviced on a regular basis to ensure smooth and efficient running whilst in service. The team is made up of skilled engineers and maintainers.

The salary for this role, inclusive of additional hours and shift allowance is £40,185.00 per annum.

Responsibilities

What will you be doing?

  • Working within the maintenance team you will ensure that all work directed to you regarding the maintenance, repair and overhaul of Traction & Rolling stock (T&RS) and components, is completed in a safe, thorough, professional and timely manner.
  • To ensure that the Health, Safety and Welfare of yourself and others is not adversely affected by your actions or omissions.
  • To take necessary action in order to remove any hazard encountered.
  • Fault diagnosis and rectification on electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Working to Maintenance Plans.
  • Generating reports for on‑going work / Condition Reports / Production Reports.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Playing an active part in accident investigations.
  • Assisting in the formulation of Safe Systems of Work and Risk Assessments.
  • Assist with on the job training of other Team Members, trainees, other DB Cargo (UK) employees and contractors.
  • Assist with the upkeep of a clean and safe working environment.
  • Undertake any training required which will assist in the development of the team and the running of the depot for example Designated Person (depo), Risk Assessor or COSHH Custodian.
  • Operation of the fuel point and use of specific I.T systems dedicated to this.
  • Ordering of material.
  • Operation of any powered device, including fixed and mobile cranes, wheel lathe, wheel drop, forklift trucks, road and rail vehicles, HIAB, lifting jacks etc. as required, subject to training / certification and reassessment.
Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

  • Successful candidates will have a NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) as a minimum. The NVQ Level 3 could have been obtained through completing an engineering apprenticeship or through a course at College/ Sixth Form in an engineering discipline.
  • Candidates will also have hands on engineering experience which must be displayed in their application.
  • Experience within a similar role in the rail sector would be an advantage, but this is not essential.
  • Forward thinking with the ability to adapt to new ways of working and positively contribute to any changes.
