Exciting opportunity for a Data DevOps Engineer to help build and maintain our cloud-based water analytics platform. This is a hands-on role focused on designing and supporting infrastructure that handles critical data from smart sensors across water and wastewater networks.

You’ll join a collaborative team working on solutions that deliver real-time insights into flow, level, and pollution events, supporting both operational decision-making and regulatory reporting. This role suits someone who enjoys automation, understands cloud-native data services, and is excited to make a real-world environmental impact.

More about the role:

  • Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
  • Develop and support CI/CD pipelines for data pipelines, services, and applications
  • Manage and optimise AWS services: S3, Lambda, ECS, RDS, IoT Core, Glue, CloudWatch
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines and ETL workloads for reliability and performance
  • Support secure networking, IAM roles, and data access policies across environments
  • Work closely with data engineers, software developers, and analytics teams
  • Enable continuous improvement of deployment processes and platform observability
  • Contribute to platform architecture and performance optimisation

About you:

  • Commercial experience in DevOps, Site Reliability, or Cloud Engineering
  • Strong experience with AWS services and infrastructure automation
  • Proficient with Terraform (or similar IaC tools) and CI/CD practices
  • Skilled in Linux systems, networking, and containerised deployments (Docker)
  • Experience with scripting (Python, Bash) and automation workflows
  • Familiarity with data pipeline tools (e.g. Airflow, dbt, Glue, Kinesis, or Kafka)
  • Understanding of observability: logging, alerting, and metrics (CloudWatch, Grafana, etc.)

Nice to Have:

  • Background in IoT, utilities, or environmental data platforms
  • Experience with LPWAN technologies (e.g. LoRaWAN, NB-IoT)
  • Knowledge of time-series data handling and visualisation tools
  • Awareness of UK water industry compliance (e.g. MCERTS, Environment Act 2021)
